Who's a candidate for this procedure?

 

​​RLE is primarily used to correct:

• Presbyopia (age-related farsightedness)

• High hyperopia (farsightedness)

• Myopia (nearsightedness, in some cases)

• Patients who are not candidates for laser surgery such as LASIK or PRK

• Prevention of future cataracts (since the natural lens is replaced)​

How is it performed?

• Local anesthesia (eye drops)

• A small incision is made in the eye.

• The natural lens is removed.

• A custom intraocular lens (IOL) is inserted according to the patient’s needs (it can be monofocal, multifocal, or toric).

What's the difference from Cataract surgery

Which procedure is best for you...

It depends on your age, type of vision problem, and eye condition:

• You are under 40 years old and have a healthy cornea → LASIK or PRK is the better option.

• You are over 45 years old and have presbyopia (difficulty reading) → RLE is an excellent option.

• You already have cataracts → Cataract surgery with a premium lens can correct your vision and reduce dependence on glasses.

• You cannot undergo LASIK due to thin corneas, dry eyes, very high myopia, etc. → RLE may be a suitable alternative.
